January
It is a cold chilling bladder month. Many cats are prone to bladder inflammation. We recommend that you come on down and get your pets urine analyzed. February
Dental month. 85% of dogs and cats have some form of dental disease. Any time during this month you could book a complementary exam with the technician and she could explain how to properly brush your pet's teeth as well as letting you know if you pet needs a dental.

March
March is diabetes maintenance month. You may be shocked to learn that even your pet's can become diabetic. Watch for symptoms like drinking a lot, urinating a lot, dandruff, overweight and lethargy. A thorough examination of your pet's health will include bloodwork and a urinalysis.

April
April is arthritis maintenance month. Arthritis is a complex condition involving inflammation of the joints. May
Allergy testing month. Dogs and cats just like humans can have allergies. More than 30% of all skin irritations in animals can be attributed to allergies. During the spring and summer months you may notice an increase in these symptoms:
  • Scratching
  • Licking paws constantly
  • Chewing at skin
  • Rubbing the face
  • Cats showing more respiratory distress
Most allergies are common when your animal comes in contact with pollen, mold, animal hair, house dust, fleas, foods and many more.
After a thorough exam is complete the veterinarian will help you in the decision on whether your animal needs more allergy testing.


June
June is the month to travel. During the summer months you must be very cautious when travelling outside of Alberta. Many people don't know that other provinces are at higher risks of some diseases and parasites than Alberta. The risks are heartworm, fleas and ticks.

July
July is grooming month. Grooming is an essential part of every pet's well being. Proper grooming habits are a must. It's best to start early. Come down and we can explain to you what grooming habits are best to have for your pet. It all depends on the breed and size of your pet.

August
August is parasite month. There are many possible parasites that your pet can come in contact with. There are fleas, mites, intestinal worms and heartworm. It is always best to deworm and protect your pet against these parasites every 6 months.

September
This month is well being month. During this month you could help your pet with the prevention of age-related conditions and diseases. Bloodwork is the best way to make sure that your pet is healthy. Sometimes your pet may not be well and not show any signs or symptoms of illness. The bloodwork can give you peace of mind knowing that you pet is all right.

October
Weight management month. During this month we could keep a close eye on your pet's well being and monitor his/her weight. All it takes is to come to the clinic once a month to re-weight you pet. Then we can keep track of how much they loose until they get to their ideal weight. Also we could use an exercise schedule as well as proper dietary foods.

November
This month is dedicated to senior pets. During this month senior pet's should be getting a total health blood screen done. It is always best to get some type of bloodwork done. When pet's get to be older they can start to develop kidney failure, infections caused by bad teeth, or they just get really ill. Having the bloodwork done can help save your pet and let us treat it before it gets worse.

December
It is winter hazard month. Come in during this month and you can learn a bit more about protecting your animal against the cold winter months.
